ALAC

The Lebanese-German Association for the Promotion of Culture "ALAC" (decree 15/1 d) was founded in 1981 as a non profit organization by a group of same-minded people who saw the necessity of spiritual exchange between the Orient and the Occident and wished to realize this exchange by creating cultural and pedagogical institutions.

They chose the Phoenician galley, symbol of the Phoenician spirit of world discovery on one hand and the printing press of Gutenberg as a mark of the German philosophical system and the global diffusion of the product of the German spirit of analysis and inventiveness on the other hand.

Knowing that the continuity of their efforts should be wakened in young people, the members of the Lebanese-German Association for the Promotion of Culture "ALAC" created the German-Lebanese School (1984), the Kulturzentrum (1984), the Lebanese-European Institute of Technology (ITLE) which has been transformed into the Lebanese German University in 2008, and the School of Physiotherapy (1999).

When we look at   the booklet of   the German–Lebanese Association for the Promotion of the Culture founded in 1981, we can recognize the valor choice of the Phoenician boat and the Press of Gutenberg, symbols of the cultural work of the association.

Both of the symbols chosen by the association indicate the exchange of the culture between the Orient and the Occident, an aim which was realized extensively.

Since its foundation, in spite of the war and the difficult economical situation, the association has realized great success in the field of culture and pedagogy. Starting with a Kindergarden, the Association built a great school ( Deutsche Schule Jounieh – Lycée Libano Allemand) where  the students study 4 languages, take Lebanese and French Baccalaureate and a German language Diploma Level I and II.
